During our first few days here at Calimesa, students have done an excellent job of demonstrating that Calimesa C.A.R.E.s (Care And Respect Everyone) as we continue to develop our school wide PBS strategies to help develop successful students. This year we will also be working with students to provide leadership opportunities within our campus and putting what we learn into action.

Please remember that if your child has a fever, they must be FEVER FREE for 24 hours before they can return to school.
Getting to School/Going Home
The district does not provide bus transportation for elementary students. A few special education students may receive bussing, but the vast majority of students will need to get to school by walking, riding a bike, scooter, skateboard, or by being driven in a vehicle. We recognize this can place a burden on students and their parents to get to school on time. Families are strongly encouraged to consider all their options when deciding how a student will get to school and how he or she will get home. Here are some factors to consider:
• The first bell rings at 8:40 a.m. Instruction begins at 8:45 a.m. Students who arrive at
school after

8:45 a.m. will be marked tardy. Excessive tardies will result in consequences.
• Calimesa will open its gates to students at 8:15 a.m. This provides students who wish to have breakfast in the cafeteria
the opportunity to do so before school starts.
• Dismissal is at 3:05 p.m. Kindergarten, 1st, 4th and 5th grade has pick up in the North parking lot and 2nd and 3rd grade
pick up will be in the South parking lot. Please take every effort to pick-up your child at dismissal. No afterschool
supervision is provided outside of the student pick-up area. Please adhere to all the rules and obey all the signs in the
    parking lot.
• Kindergarten drop off is in the North Parking lot.  Gates open for supervised play at 8:15 for AM Kindergarten and 11:15
for PM Kindergarten.  Please be on time for drop off and pick up.
• S.T.A.R.S is available for students that are not able to be picked up prior to 3:20 p.m. This is a fee
based service that runs each school day until 6:00 p.m.
Leaving School Early/Medical Appointments
Please know that if you or someone else comes during the school day to pick-up your child, that you may be asked to present a photo ID to confirm you identity. We will also check to see if the person is listed on the release card as someone who is authorized to pick-up your child. If a person is not listed on the release card, he or she will not be able to leave with your child. If your student must leave school before the end of the day, such as for a doctor or a dentist appointment, you must come into the office to sign him or her out. Please make every effort to schedule these appointments after the 3:05 p.m. dismissal.
Positive Behavior Support (PBS)
Calimesa is in full stride implementing PBS strategies across campus to assist with supporting successful student behavior. These research-based strategies are used in over 18,000 schools across the nation. Building on last year’s components of “Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Safe.” Calimesa will continue to provide behavior supports to students in three ways this year:

  • Define clear expectations how students can be Respectful, Responsible, & Safe throughout the campus. This will occur through classroom instruction and school wide postings defining clear expectations for students and staff.
  • Introduce universal expectations for safe behavior on the playground. Students will be asked to stop and freeze, take a knee or sit at the end of each recess period. Once all students have complied, they may walk and line up to return to class.
  • Each week Calimesa will focus on a different “Survival Skill” for students that will help them to achieve success at school. Once all “Survival Skills” have been addressed, teachers will repeat the cycle reinforcing prior learning.

Food Allergies & Special Medical Conditions
To ensure the safety of students who have food allergies or special medical conditions, we ask that the parents of these students contact the site administration and the district’s Child Nutrition Department Immediately. We need to be aware of anything that might be dangerous or cause an allergic reaction. This information allows us to take the preventive measures needed to ensure the safety and health of your student.
School Site Council Openings
Calimesa’s School Site Council is composed of representatives of all the stakeholders at the school: administration, classified employee, certificated employee, and parents. This important group oversees the school program, puts together the School Plan, and allocates some of the school’s state and federal funds. It is a great way to be involved. We are looking for parents who would like to serve on this committee. Meetings are typically held on the third Monday of the month after school and last approximately one hour. If you are interested in serving on this group, please contact Nancy Garrison not later than August 30. Visitors are always welcome at the meetings.
PTA Membership Drive
The Calimesa PTA is a very dynamic and productive group. Please lend your support by joining the PTA for only $6. Membership forms are available in the office and at Back-to-School Night. Your membership shows support for Calimesa and is greatly appreciated. Parents, staff members, students, relatives, and friends are all welcome to join PTA. Another way to support Calimesa and its student programs is to participate in the annual fundraiser.
Calimesa/Yucaipa-Calimesa JUSD Website
The Calimesa website is continuously updated.  Please check the website for important dates, events and fun activities.  The teachers SchoolFusion pages are a great way to keep up to date on things going on in the classrooms.  Please contact your child’s teacher for information on their web page.  The School District website is also a great way to keep informed on activities that are happening not only in the schools, but also in the community.
